Victorian 15ct Gold Ruby & Diamond Ring, Birmingham 1889

Crafted in 15ct Yellow Gold, the broad front gives the ring the presence of a signet while the three inset gemstones add just the right amount of colour and antique sparkle.

Across the centre sit two rich red rubies and a central old-cut diamond, each individually set within a diamond-shaped surround. The geometric arrangement is wonderfully typical of the period, with the bright central diamond contrasting beautifully against the deeper tones of the rubies and warm yellow gold.

Rather than relying on gemstones alone for its detail, the goldwork forms an important part of the design. Decorative borders frame either side of the broad central panel before the ring tapers towards the back of the band. The result is substantial in appearance while remaining very comfortable and wearable on the hand. Its softly aged finish and signs of over a century of wear only add to its authentic Victorian character.

Inside the band is a particularly lovely set of original hallmarks. The ring is marked for 15ct Gold, Birmingham 1889, alongside the Makers Mark of Walter Lunt. At a time when 15ct Gold was an established British standard, pieces such as this were created in a fineness that was later discontinued, making original 15ct Victorian Jewellery especially appealing to collectors today.
