Victorian 15ct Yellow Gold Diamond Gypsy Ring, Birmingham 1892

At the centre sits the largest of the three diamonds, with a smaller diamond positioned to either side. Each is set directly into the gold within a deeply engraved starburst, allowing the stones to sit low and protected within the ring rather than standing proud of the surface. The slightly individual character of the stones works beautifully with a piece of this age, giving the ring a softer antique sparkle.

The goldwork surrounding them is just as lovely. Flowing scroll and foliate-style engraving frames the central panel and continues towards the shoulders, adding depth and detail without overwhelming the simplicity of the three-stone arrangement. The band gradually narrows towards the back, making the substantial-looking front comfortable and easy to wear.

Inside is a wonderfully clear set of British hallmarks showing 15ct Gold and Birmingham 1892. The 15ct standard is a particularly lovely feature of Victorian Jewellery and immediately gives the piece another point of interest for collectors of old British gold.

Weighing 2.4 grams and currently a Size N½, this is a charming original Victorian ring that has survived for well over 130 years.
